Organization: Development Pathways Ltd
Start date: 1 Feb 2022
End date: 15 Apr 2022
Registration deadline: 11 Jan 2022

ABOUT THE COURSE
We will deliver a set of training sessions that combine extensive practical experience with up-to date evidence, and is aimed at providing participants with:

  • An in-depth understanding of social protection so that they are able to effectively make the case for increased investment in inclusive social protection (ISP).
  • Evidence to influence policymakers in different countries and development institutions to make the case for inclusive social protection.
  • A comprehensive understanding of social protection’s economic, social and political impacts, and the value of increased investment in the sector.

WHY DEVELOPMENT PATHWAYS?
We regularly provide training courses and capacity building to a wealth of Governments, development partners’ staff, NGO representatives, practitioners and academics in social protection. Following our successful 2019 training course in Naivasha, and due to the COVID-19 global pandemic, we are now also offering online training courses. Led by global experts in social protection, this online interactive course has been built on the trainers' wealth of experience in engaging with policymakers to gain commitments to invest in inclusive, lifecycle social protection schemes. We provide an interactive and empowering approach to learning. Plenary sessions on key topics will be accompanied by group work, exercises and games in which participants arrive at answers themselves. This also provides an opportunity to build global networks and access the insights of other participants.

WHY INCLUSIVE SOCIAL PROTECTION IS IMPORTANT
If social protection is to be effective, it must be inclusive and implemented as a right of all citizens. Inclusive social protection systems ensure that everyone is able to access income security throughout the lifecycle, from childhood to old age, whenever it is required.

THE CHALLENGE...
Convincing policymakers and development partners to invest can be challenging. They may not appreciate the value of social protection, may believe it is unaffordable, or may have been convinced by many of the negative myths surrounding it.
As a consequence, too many people globally are still being left behind.

CORE LECTURES:

  1. Reconceptualising poverty and vulnerability within the context of universal social protection
  2. Understanding of social protection: history, ideologies and approaches

  4. Lifecycle, multi-tiered social protection
  5. Putting human rights and dignity at the heart of social protection
